Phosphate coatings on steel parts are used for corrosion resistance, lubricity and as a base coat for paint, powder coat or e-coat. Iron phosphate is sometimes used in powder coating, but is normally not used as a final finish. Zinc phosphate gives better corrosion resistance than Iron. Manganese phosphate is used for corrosion resistance, but is often specified because it gives good lubricity.
