Gold is a soft dense metal used for electrical conductivity, non-reactivity and of course decorative beauty. The Mil-G-45204 specification has grades specifying 99.9%, 99.7% and 99.0% purity. The 99.9% gold is soft and does not stand up to abrasion as well as the less pure alloys.
